Open Call - Gallery Onyx Holiday Special

SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS FOR ART IN CATEGORY 1

You can submit a maximum of four pieces of artwork for consideration. Please note that your artwork must be priced $600 or less for this special holiday season exhibit. Please deliver your artwork to Gallery Onyx Pacific Place with a completed contract and inventory form Saturday November 15, 2025 or Sunday November 16, 2025 between 12 - 5pm.

Specific submittal instructions are shown below:

Acceptable Categories: drawing, painting, photography, ceramics, other 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional artwork. Submission Instructions (please read):

1. All artwork in category 1 must be original, priced $600 or less and entirely the work of the artist.

2. No copies, derivatives or reproductions; work cannot be based on copyrighted or materials previously published.

3. Submitted new artwork could have been previously shown in an Onyx exhibition with one exception, there must have been at least ten (10) months since being shown in Gallery Onyx.

4. 2D or wall hung works must not exceed 48 inches in height and 48 inches in width, BEFORE framing. Exceptions are considered depending on the overall artwork.

5. 3D artwork requiring a pedestal or horizontal surface may not exceed 20H x 10W x 10D inches. Weight should be less than 20 pounds. (Gallery Onyx can only accommodate a limited number of 3D free standing artwork at this time).

6. All artwork MUST be for sale. All sales, including tax collecting/reporting, will be handled through Onyx Fine Arts Collective. Artists will receive 70% of the before tax price. Onyx charges a commission of 30% of the before tax price. Artists' sales and payments for sold artwork are typically processed at the end of each month.

7. Artists must submit artwork on their own accord. Submissions by galleries and agents of artists are not eligible for consideration.

8. All artwork must be gallery presentable and ready to hang with wire hanging method (see attached examples). No sawtooth hangers, single hook or taped-on hanging attachments will be allowed unless approved by Onyx (see below for example of proper hanging method). No in-gallery construction or assembly of artwork is allowed unless authorized by gallery management.

9. Final selection of submitted artwork will be done by Onyx. Artists will be contacted to arrange pickup of the art if the artwork is not ultimately selected for installation in the exhibit.

10. Please deliver your artwork to Gallery Onyx with completed contract and inventory form Saturday November 15, 2025 or Sunday November 16, 2025 between 12 - 5pm.

SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS FOR ART IN CATEGORY 2

1. Prints of art backed with cardboard in cellophane wrap with title, artist name and price affixed to the artwork (5 prints of different artwork maximum).

2. One-of-a-kind jewelry identified by title, artist name and price affixed to the artwork (5 pieces maximum).

3. Note cards in boxes or decorative wrapping identified by title, artist name and price affixed to the artwork (5 boxes maximum or 5 single notecards).

4. Other one-of-a-kind handmade artwork identified by title, artist name and price affixed to the artwork .

Please deliver your artwork to Gallery Onyx with completed contract and inventory form Saturday November 15, 2025 or Sunday November 16, 2025 between 12 - 5pm. All art in this category must have a title or unique number which correlates to the numbers listed on your inventory form with the price and artist name affixed to the artwork. Artists in category 1 selected to show artwork in Gallery Onyx are required to pay a $10 nonrefundable fee upon submission of artwork regardless of the number of pieces submitted or selected. This category of artists can also exhibit artwork in category 2 at no charge as long as they have category 1 art exhibited.

Artists selected to show artwork in category 2 only are required to pay a $10 nonrefundable fee upon submission of artwork regardless of the number of pieces submitted or selected. With each new exhibit, the artwork must be refreshed and a new $10 nonrefundable fee paid. There is no exhibit fee or commission for artists in grade 12 or less.

LIABILITY

Please be advised that every reasonable precaution will be taken during receipt, installation, exhibition and return of your artwork. Artists will hold Onyx Fine Arts Collective, its board of directors and volunteers harmless for loss or damage that may occur during the time your artwork is in its possession. All artwork should be of a substantial enough nature to withstand normal handling. Again, Gallery Onyx does not have storage for your artwork. WE ENCOURAGE ARTISTS TO CARRY THEIR OWN INSURANCE.

Storefront Media Gallery: Artist Carousel

The Storefront Media Gallery offers artists a unique platform to present their work publicly, enlivening the heart of Seattle’s urban core. The Artist Carousel is designed as an open opportunity, highlighting the diverse creative voices of artists living and working across King County.

  • Four digital screens (1920 x 1080 each) are located in 4Culture’s storefront windows, facing Prefontaine Place South.

  • More than 20,000 people pass by daily on foot, bike, or bus.

  • Artwork will rotate in a programmatic loop from 7:00 am–10:00 pm daily.

2026 Storefronts South Lake Union

Budget: $1500

Eligibility: All works must be existing or new works created for temporary installation. All visual media are accepted. Content must be G-rated and suitable for the general public. Flexible, dynamic installations that utilize display windows to their fullest potential and engage with the general public both day and night are preferred.

Shunpike’s Storefronts South Lake Union program is now accepting applications to exhibit works in 2026. Applications are due November 1, 2025. The Storefronts & Artist Residencies program transforms empty commercial spaces into vibrant hubs for creativity and community engagement. Launched in response to the 2008 economic downturn and expanded as part of Seattle Restored (2021-2025), the program has a 15-year track record of revitalizing urban neighborhoods by turning vacant storefronts into public art exhibitions and artist residencies. Storefronts: South Lake Union has evolved into an ongoing temporary public art partnership with Amazon, displaying 16 artists’ works a year. Artists’ are paid to display works in empty street-facing windows throughout South Lake Union. Apply by November 1 to be considered for a window exhibition in 2026!

Alki Wet Weather Treatment Station: Standby Generator Project

Overview

4Culture and King County’s Wastewater Treatment Division (WTD) will commission an artist or artist-led team to foster an emotional connection to wastewater management—and its effects on water quality and the Puget Sound marine ecosystem—by stimulating curiosity and increasing appreciation for critical hidden infrastructure.  This exciting opportunity is connected to the Alki Standby Generator project, which will make critical improvements to the existing WTD Alki Wet Weather Treatment Station (WWTS) and 63rd Ave Pump Station located in West Seattle.

An artist or artist-led team from King County, WA, will work with 4Culture and King County Wastewater Treatment Division (WTD) to create innovative, new work that creates an emotional connection to our place in the water cycle, intertidal habitat, and the marine ecosystem of the Salish Sea.

Budget

$40,000 ($8,000 fee, up to $32,000 for implementation)
Budgets are inclusive of artist fee and implementation. Washington State Sales/Use Tax may apply, depending on the artist’s work.

The award is open to visual artists in all media working in Washington, Oregon, or Idaho. Artists of diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

The application will be available at callforentry.org. There is a $10 application fee. The Seattle Art Museum is committed to values of accessibility and financial assistance.

All entries must be submitted online. Entries sent by standard mail will not be accepted. Artists are encouraged to submit their most recent body of work.

12th Ave Arts: Lobby Installation / Calls & Submissions

To energize the Grand Lobby at 12th Ave Arts, CRH is seeking to procure provocative, innovative works of art that respond to the theme of neighbors and neighborhood. This includes—but is not limited to— paintings, textiles, photography, mixed media, murals, and interactive works that can occupy large display areas in a public gathering space.

Proposals may include multiple pieces and may be new or existing work.

Theatre Entry: 15’ x 30’ wall with 15’ ceiling capable of hanging installation art above audience.

Lobby art is curated by CRH and Black Box Operations, the master tenant of two performing arts spaces that open off the lobby. The Theatre Entry installation is desired in late Summer 2025.

Maverick Apartments Window (2D or 3D) – 4-month exhibit + $250 stipend

Merrill Gardens Windows (2D or 3D) – 4-month exhibit + $250 stipend

Competition New American Paintings

New American Paintings has a targeted readership of more than ten thousand art collectors, art world professionals, and art enthusiasts who have a deep interest in contemporary painting and discovering new artists. 

They sponsor six juried competitions per year. The forty winners of each competition receive a four-page, full-color spread in New American Paintings.

This cycle is open to artists on the Pacific Coast of the United States.

Open Call: 20th Annual Juried Onyx Fine Arts Collective Exhibit

Onyx Fine Arts Collective will showcase the artwork of artists of African descent residing in the Pacific Northwest at our milestone 20th Annual Juried Onyx Fine Arts Collective Exhibit in Gallery Onyx located in the downtown Seattle, Washington Pacific Place Shopping Center.  The gallery is located at 600 - Pine Street (3rd flr).  You are invited to submit your artwork for consideration.  Summary details about the exhibit are the following:

 

1.  This is an Open Call for visual art which has not been shown in an Onyx exhibit.

2.  All artwork must be for sale and priced to sell.

3.  The deadline for art submission is July 1, 2025.

4.  The exhibit opens July 17, 2025 and ends November 14, 2025.

5.   Artists can submit up to 2 pieces of artwork produced in the last 5 years for consideration.  However, the artwork must not have been previously shown in an Onyx exhibit.

6.  Because of space limitations all artwork submitted may not ultimately be selected for the exhibit.

7.  Accepted artwork must be delivered with the attached contract and inventory forms.

 

Submissions can only be made by upload your art images through the online Entrythingy process located at this link -

Artists must register with Entrythingy through the link and review the specific submission details.  Although Entrythingy registration is free but there is a $20 non-refundable fee for uploading up to two pieces of artwork.

The 3rd Annual All Women Exhibit at Gallery Onyx showcases original work by women artists of African descent from the Pacific Northwest. Artists can apply by submitting up to two original pieces of 2D or 3D artwork and/or up to five items in the prints and handmade goods category. Drop off your work, along with a completed contract and inventory form, at Gallery Onyx on May 17 or 18 between 12–5 PM. Submission fees apply.

CATEGORY 1 ART

Paintings, Drawings, Photography, Ceramics, 2D/3D Art

  • Submit up to 2 original pieces (no copies, derivatives, or work based on copyrighted material).

  • Must be artist’s own work, for sale, and gallery-ready (wired for hanging; no sawtooth or taped hangers).

Grants for Artist Projects (GAP) are unrestricted project-based grants of $1,500 awarded to 65 artists working in all disciplines across Washington State.

Funding may be used for but not limited to artist fees, materials, equipment, space rental, travel for research, documentation, professional development opportunities, marketing and promotion, support to continue a current project, support to start a new project, and many other needs related to your project.
