about
onyx fine arts collective is a living legacy
We're proud to be the largest and longest-standing community of African diaspora artists in the Pacific Northwest.
Established in 2005
our mission and commitment
Onyx Fine Arts Collective is a voluntary, non-profit organization whose mission is to educate, inspire, cultivate, and showcase the artwork of artists of the African diaspora from our Pacific Northwest community.
We are committed to celebrate and promote the visual artwork of artists of African descent principally from the Pacific Northwest. Through public art exhibitions, Onyx believes that communication in our society is improved through visual art as it is unfiltered by written and spoken words.
over 800 artists
Primarily by word-of-mouth marketing, Onyx has grown the list of identified artists to over 800, most of whom have never shown their artwork publicly. Artwork exhibited by these artists has received high acclaim by public viewers and resulted in requests for return exhibits.
highlight of accomplishments
Onyx was honored that their efforts have been recognized by the Tri-Cites African American Community Cultural and Educational Society, as being worthy of their 2014 “Commitment to Diversity” award. This award was given to recognize the success of Onyx for establishing an artistic presence for artists of African ancestry in the Pacific Northwest.
Being invited by the Seattle Northwest African Museum (NAAM) to showcase the artwork of award winning artists from 10 years of hosting exhibits.
Showcasing group exhibits at the Seattle Washington State Convention Center (WSCC).
Hosting the 12th Annual exhibit, “Truth B Told,” in the historic King Street Station. This exhibit which showcased 160 original works of art by 47 artists was the largest exhibit of artwork by artist of African ancestry in the history of Pacific Northwest. This exhibit was published in a book under the title “Truth B Told,” which was recently accepted by the Seattle Public Library.
The opening of a non-profit retail gallery space called “Gallery Onyx” 11 years ago, in the heart of downtown Seattle, currently located at 600 Pine St., in the Pacific Place Shopping Center.
Returning tax benefit to the city of Seattle and Washington state residents from the sale of artwork by the nonprofit Gallery Onyx.
Celebrating the release of a second book “Truth B Told II,” which features 276 pieces of artwork by 74 artists. This book is also in the Seattle Public Library.
In Year 2025 Onyx celebrated its 20th anniversary. Over the course of the 20 years, Onyx has used visual art as the primary catalyst to break down communication barriers which are still prevalent in our society
our volunteers
Onyx Fine Arts Collective thanks our Artists, Donors, Board of Directors, Volunteers, and Consulting Advisors for their dedication to our mission and the arts. Onyx could in no way manage the tremendous growth of the last 20 years and sustain our presence in the Pacific Northwest arts community without their contributions of time, donations, skill, knowledge, talent, and resources. Thank you all!
