President’s Message

Hello Onyx Friends,

As you may already know, Onyx has been stretching its wings in a new endeavor recently.  Specifically, our "Art for the Arts" initiative has engaged in a fundraiser in partnership with Dimitriou's Jazz Alley to help with the funding of local student music programs, including JazzEd, Garfield Jazz Foundation, Seattle Reparatory Jazz Organization and Jazz Scholars all of which were founded or co-founded by Seattle Jazz legend Clarence Acox.  Funds from the fundraiser will also be directed toward commissioning and installing a statue in honor of Clarence.

And there's more.  April 19 we will celebrate our second "All Women Juried Art Exhibit".  The first All Women Exhibit was outstanding as it concentrated on artwork aimed at showcasing art juried and narrated by women, with the specific intent being to capture the perspectives and voices of Women Artists of African descent from the Pacific Northwest community.

The Reception for this exhibit is scheduled April 21 from 1 - 5pm so please plan to attend to support Gallery Onyx and our women artists.

For your information, the number of artists on the Onyx mailing list is almost at 800...and growing.

Thank you for supporting Onyx Fine Arts Collective and we hope to see you in Gallery Onyx soon.

Artfully yours,

Earnest D. Thomas, President
