Clifford Crawford My passion for photography began when I watched images come to life in Polaroid pictures in the mid 60’s. I recall the excitement my sister and I had while my mother counted down before peeling off the back of the photo and watch the image come to life.
Looking back my grandmother had a tremendous influence on me in that I learned my family’s history from photo’s she collected through out her life. At least once a year my grandmother would pull out this large old box full of photos that day we learned about our great, great grandparents, uncles, aunts and cousins. Those photos and her stories were priceless. To this day my family has carried on that same tradition with my grandchildren of looking at old photos and sharing stories (it’s all about family).
I studied photography in my first year of college (1979) while majoring in Mass Communications. I left the heart lands of Kansas and moved to Seattle eventually working in distribution for different companies. In 1994 I attended Seattle Art Institute studying portraiture and event photography graduating in 1995. Since I am a life long student with an insatiable desire to learn I earned my bachelors degree is Business management in 2003 from the University of Phoenix.
I finally decided to make a concerted effort to pursue my passion (2010) of taking portraits of families, sports and nature (pursuing my dream). Photography is an integral part of my life, I have met good people and I truly enjoy traveling down the path of adventure in an attempt to make the connection through my photography. I shoot part time but I think about photography full time (just ask my family).
Photographers that influenced me are Gordon Parks, Ansel Adams, Ruth Bernhard, Annie Leibovitz, Galen Rowell, Richard Avedon, George Hurrell, Howard Schatz, James Van Der Zee and Jim Richardson to name a few.
Photography and music are similar, each medium has a voice that transcends all languages to be enjoyed and treasured by all.
